Autumn/Winter 2020 Haircare

Rebekah FraserNews

Can you believe we are almost into October of 2020? It has been one of the strangest years we have ever known, that’s for sure! Even though it may not feel like it, winter is approaching and during autumn/winter our hair can suffer. The temperature drops and our central heating goes on. This can cause havoc for your hair.

It is more important now than ever to ensure your hair care routine is robust and ready to protect you against the elements. The first step in your hair care routine is cleansing your hair. We recommend that you use a hydrating, nourishing shampoo that will moisturise the hair whilst cleansing your scalp and removing product build up. If your hair is lacking volume, we recommend using a volumising shampoo to give height to your hair and avoid it becoming limp. Our stylists are always happy to advise you on the best shampoo for your hair type. Pop in or ask at your next appointment for your personalised haircare prescription. Top tip – you only need to use a 50p size amount of shampoo. After cleansing, you need to add moisture back into your hair with a conditioner. Make sure to apply only to the mid lengths and ends and avoid your scalp. To make your hair even healthier, add a treatment mask in between your shampoo and conditioner once per week. Leave the treatment on for 5 minutes to nourish your hair from the inside out. Like with your shampoo, the treatment you use needs to be targeted to your hair too. Our stylists can help you with this in the salon too.

Your hair tends to require more styling at this time of year as beachy waves are left behind with the summer. Therefore, you must use a heat protecting product on your hair prior to styling. At Ross Charles, we use L’Anza products and the entire range is packed heat with protection in all products. Therefore by using the right L’Anza product for your hair type and concerns, your hair will be fully protected hair from heat when styling. To seal your hair, reduce frizz and further protect against the damage of central heating, finish with a healing oil to replace lost moisture and protein. This will leave your hair looking smooth and feeling stronger than ever.

Final top tip – our hair is most delicate when wet. Once you take your hair out of the towel when damp, be sure to treat it with care. Use a wide tooth comb or detangling brush and brush from ends before brushing the roots and work your way up. This will reduce breakage and keep your hair feelings it’s best.
