Who is Ross Charles?

Ross Charles is one of the UK’s leading hairdressers, and he opened his first hair salon in York in 2008.

His family has been involved in hairdressing since 1974, and Ross himself has been working on hair since 1993. Initially trained by his award-winning stylist father, David Charles, Ross then continued to develop his techniques in hairdressing for women, men and barbering, and he was trained by other top names in the industry.

These days, Ross has multiple awards and accolades to his name, and is always striving to achieve more. Some prestigious honours to his name include:

• Winner of The Hair Awards

• 3x British Hairdressing Awards finalist for men and women

• 3x winner of the Supremes (the world’s largest hairdressing competition)

• Winner of British Best Female Hairdressing

• Multiple Salon Business Awards finalist

• Multiple International Hairdressing Awards finalist

• Winner of Photographic Stylist of the Year 2016 (finalist in 2015 and 2017)

Ross is an international educator for AlterEgo Italy hair products. He helps to develop the brand’s grooming range, and helps to produce their international photographic collections. A recent trip took him to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where he was teaching classes as part of the hair stage show for the biggest product distributor in the UAE. He also often spends time in Venice at AlterEgo’s headquarters as part of their ‘train the trainer’ sessions.

Ross is the first Donald Scott NYC Rat Pack Hair Artistry team member and educator outside of the USA, and is a product ambassador for the UK. Ross teaches his Donald Scott razor techniques to other hairdressers on stage and at seminars using the full range of DSNYC tools. All the tools in the range are available in our shop.

What’s more, Ross is also a qualified L3 teacher. He provides group training sessions, seminars and courses for hairdressers at all levels. Find out more details at Ross Charles Professional.

As well as these roles as an educator and trainer, Ross is also a regular judge at hair competitions like the National Hairdresser Federation’s British Best Hairdressers, and the British Hairdressing Business Awards.
